The Three Horsemen

It is rare to get a glimpse of California Highway Patrol officers riding horses instead of their motorcycles or patrol cars.
In this picture, they were providing security for the State Capitol building in Sacramento.

en France nous avons aussi des brigades à cheval, dans les forêts de la région parisienne et sur certains lieux historiques ou certaines plages balnéaires.Il semblerait que cela soit tout aussi efficace voir plus que les patrouilles faites en voiture.

in France we also have horse brigades in the forests of the Paris area and some historic sites or certain beaches balnéaires.Il seems that this is equally effective see that patrols made by car.

They look more friendly riding on horses than on motorcycles.

Wow, that seems very traditional against the policemen patroling in cars and on bikes! :-) Nice photos!

gives a whole new meaning to the term CHIPs....oh but that's either the California Highway Patrol or what cow's leave behind...I'll have to come up with a new one for horses...

Thanks everyone for your comments.

@Pete: Thanks for the suggestions. I'll come for a visit.

@Christian: Merci de la visite encore. Merci de la traduction.
Horses are more effective in the forest, but they have to eat and clean up after, just like cars which needs gas and maintenance. I think tourists like patrol by horses to seem more friendly.

@rainfield61: I do agree they seem friendlier riding horses than cars or motorcycle. I wonder if it is more embarrassing being stopped by a officer on a horse than on a motorcycle?

@Kcalpesh/betchai/Poetic Shutterbug: I usually see them during parades and occasionally around tourist areas.

@Roschelle: For horses, how about "Compost from Horses In PlantS"? I think that spells CHIPs. :D

hiya, that is a really cool picture. In the UK we tend to only see the police on horseback at football (soccer) games where there may be crowd trouble or riots/ protests. I thibk that is because the police are more threatening on horses- mainly because horses are so big and dangerous. and also because maybe the people won't hurt the horses so wouldn't attack the police.
