Skywatch Friday - Wings of Freedom Tour
This past Monday, we visited the Wings of Freedom Tour to see vintage World War II aircrafts.
The weather was rainy and cold, but that did not stop people from coming to see these restored beauties. Although I did not know how some people were able to stand there for an hour in just shorts and t-shirts waiting in line to get inside to see the bomber's interior.
The aircraft in the foreground is the B-17G Flying Fortress built in 1945 by Boeing/Douglas Aircraft Company in Long Beach, Calfornia.

This is the B-24J Liberator bomber built in 1944 by the Consolidated Aircraft Company in Fort Worth, Texas. Its role in World War II was to fly missions over Europe and the Pacific as a strategic bomber.
The volunteers dressed up World War II military outfits and the tanks were from the local Military Vehicle Technology Foundation museum which I did not know existed until I saw them there that day.

Airplanes have and always will fascinate me. Flying is an incredible feat for mankind.
What a fine way to spend a day, even a chilly one, visiting hands on history! Thanks for sharing with us on SWF!

Quite a few people I know would've enjoyed this! It's nice how there seem to be other "living history" events in different places, per the website. I like the detail captured on all those immense airplanes and other vehicles - worth the soggy weather:)

Those are some great displays.
Tons to see and do with that display, the aircraft are particularly fascinating.
WE had also one here in Norway last year and there were many visitors too:)

An interesting day. The first photo really struck me, I think it was the silhouetted propellers against the sky.
Wouldn't you just like to fly the first plane.

Beautiful pictures! Reminded me of an Aero India show I attended a few months back.
Those planes are in such a good condition! And what a nice touch to have people wearing old uniforms - sometimes you see the uniforms in cases or on mannequins but you rarely get to see how they would have looked in real life.
