San Francisco Airport Museum

Airplanes mounted on the ceiling of the Turpen Aviation Museum. This 11,500 square ft. museum is a reproduction of the passenger waiting area of the 1937 San Francisco Airport Administration Building. Click here for more in-depth information.

There was an exhibit about airline passenger chairs over the years. The photo you see above is the first airline seat. I thought it is so unusual compared to the current seats that I had to photograph it to show you. Click here for more information about the exhibit.

Click on the photo to read about this initial design.

This entry is the beginning series of my recent Seoul, South Korea trip. Starting at the San Francisco International Airport before my flight, I visited the Louis A. Turpen Aviation Museum dedicated to commercial aviation.

Have a nice weekend,
Karen

Boy, there is no comparison between the airline seats today and that first one. A person could actually be comfortable in the wicker one.

I've never been on a plane and don't plan on it either but if I was that is certainly not what I would expect to sit in. Looks like it belongs on the porch.

What a neat photo and old history of the chair, i certainly would not want to sit in that either, looks very uncomfortable

That's funny how different people prefer different types of seats. I think after sitting in any chair for many hours, it will be uncomfortable.
