Carver & Window Washer

During a day at sea, the kitchen staff did a demonstration on vegetable & fruit carving. A worker is seen here carving a watermelon. The flower-looking bouquet in the photo was all done with vegetables.

This is a close up of the finished watermelon carved in the previous photo. Try this when you buy your next watermelon.

In order to keep all the windows clean for the passengers, here is a window washer on a scaffold cleaning windows in the middle of the ocean. Crazy, huh?

The window washer makes me seasick...I'm glad someone is willing to do that.
I just love the art carvings. Wish I could do that myself.

Photowannabe: Speaking of seasick, the seas were a little rough. It's funny how the crew always leaves new bags by the stairs in case anyone has an accident.

The carving is really neat. I would take that job over the window washing job. But I would probably be fired the first day from each job.

I hope they get a decent wage because the one takes talent and the other nerve (or no brains). Is the fruit carver and the window washer the same person? The water melon is really neat!

What a variety! I'm looking forward to more photos from your trip. I was fortunate to go on a Holland America cruise tour back in the late '90s--I'll never ever forget what a great time I had, seeing Alaska and Canada.

Jim: I'm with you, being outside in the high seas hanging by a rope is not for me.

Dot: One time they had 3 window washers working at the same time, but I didn't photograph that. The carver and window washer are two separate people, but both drew lots of curiosity from passengers.

Lynette: Thanks for the vote of confidence. I was hoping I didn't bore everyone with my vacation photos. Haha!

wow...I can barely cut a watermelon without cutting myself! This is awesome!
