Weekend at the Embarcadero

The San Francisco Ferry Building was opened in 1898 and the transportation hub for ferries and trains into and out of the city. Today, it is still a ferry hub, but not so much for trains. Many visitors come on the weekends for the Farmers Market outside...

And more shops and dining inside.

Across the street are additional street vendors under white tents selling their wares.

Behind the Ferry Building are the gates to embark onto the ferry boats.

Instead of flying, this patient passenger is waiting for his boat ride across the bay.

An energetic and vibrant area. I recall going there with a friend in the '60s and recall some pretty seedy areas.

Good pictures but I only recognise the Oakland Bay bridge. A unique bridge.

What a nice place to visit for shopping on weekends. The building is well preserved.

eileeninmd: Thanks and the bridge is more beautiful at night when it's lit up.

llandudnopictures: It's always crowded on the weekends with tourists.

Kate: It used to be a pretty seedy place, but it has changed to be a hip place to hang out on the weekends. Of course, there are some questionable people around like any big city.

Yogi: I go there occasionally and be a tourist.

Filip and Kristel: You did not visit the Ferry Building when you were in San Francisco?

cocomino: Many different foods to try and people-watch too.

Always a fun spot, looks like you hit it on a nice day. Beautiful interior shot, that ceiling is really spectacular and so few people notice it and those wonderful arched windows.

Oh, I love that old building! It is so fine and beautiful, especially inside. I do love Victorian buildings. It looks like a lovely area and I'm happy to see from your comments that it's no longer run down and seedy.
