Cancer Survivors Plaza

During my trip to Dallas, I discovered this area dedicated to cancer survivors. I thought this was a unique place until I looked up on the internet that the Blochs have quite a few cancer survivor parks around United States.

Ever since Richard Bloch beat lung cancer in 1980, he decided to dedicate his life to helping cancer victims. Read more about the R.A. Bloch Cancer Foundation here.

Wow, this is interesting. If you go to my blog you will see where I am trying to raise money for Relay for Life to help find a cure for cancer. We found out in December 2006 our daughter (then 24) had brain cancer. She had a tumor the size of a lemon. They surgically removed 80% of the tumor. Their goal was to shrink the remaining tumor as much as possible with radiation but said there was no way they could get it all as imbedded into the brain it was and because of the type of cancer it was. She went through six weeks of radiation finishing her last treatment in March 2007. She went back for an MRI in May 2007. They said they couuld still see some of the tumor but could not get a accurate reading of the size because the spot was still hot from the radiation. In September she went back for another MRI and the tumor was completely gone. The radiation oncologist said there was no way the radiation could have gotten all the tumor and he is giving God the credit for healing her. She went back again in March 2008 and the tumor is still gone. She will be 26 in June and is living a healthy normal life now.

That looks like a really neat place and it's great there are more of them. I've heard of different people going to Texas for cancer tx. I wonder if that is where they go.

Andrea: Glad to hear your daughter's cancer has gone away. Miracles do happen. Somethings not even doctors can explain. She must been extremely blessed and happy to be given a 2nd chance. I've photographed several Relay for Life events and I have always been touched by the cancer survivors who lead off each walk.

Dot: The Cancer Survivor Plaza is fairly small place close to downtown and not close to any treatment facilities that I am aware of.

Very neat thing to see. I wonder why Boston doesn't have a cancer survivor park. There should be one in every state.

Fenix: It's inspirational to see something like this, but it's most likely lack of money.
