Santa Monica Pier

Continuing my road trip from a few weeks back, we stopped off here at the famous Santa Monica Pier in Southern California.

This is the long boardwalk over the water opened back in 1909. To read more about this historic tourist site, click here.

One side of the pier is Pacific Park.

The other side is this beautiful beach.

Hey AVCr8teur - nice pics. I grew up in So Cal and that brings back many memories. There used to be another pier nearby with an awesome place called Pacific Ocean Park (POP)It had a ride that took you out over the ocean that had unbelievable views. Also a rolloer coaster, that for it's time was pretty big. It was built of wood and when you were on it, the cars would rock and shake and rattle - you thought for sure the whole thing was coming down! Kids used to brag that they went on the roller coaster at POP - thanks for the memories :-}

Looks like a fun and interesting place. I'm surprised that the sand looks so dark.
