San Francisco National Cemetery

I visited San Francisco's Presidio a few weeks ago and encountered this military cemetery on the grounds dating back to the 1850's. Some of the graves date as far back as the Civil War. As you can see, the site faces breathtaking views of San Francisco Bay.

One of the photographs is of an electronic gravesite locator which I have never seen before. Originally, I thought it was an ATM machine on the side of a building until I got closer to read the sign. But, if you really think about it, why would there be an ATM machine in a cemetery? Silly me.

Nice idea, but I agree about the "ATM-look". Maybe you are supposed to dig for the money?

Beautiful view of San Francisco.
I've never see a grave site locater but I suppose it's a nice thing to have. I'm with you on it looking like an ATM.

Hi Karen, Nice shot of the cemetery. My Father in Law and Mother in Law are buried there.
The gravesite locator is a new one on me. it certainly looks like an ATM machine...too funny.

Your photo looking down the slope of the graveyard is great. And the grave locator is a great, 21st century idea.

What a gorgeous view! Too bad the patrons can't appreciate it. ha

Sorry - bad humor!

It DOES look like an ATM...

I guess we all think it looks like an ATM because of the slots at the bottom which look like money dispensers. Perhaps the frame was retrofitted from an ATM machine.

Photowannabe: How interesting to know someone buried there. So I assume you visited this place a few times.
