Painted Ladies

I was walking through San Francisco and saw these houses along the way. I believe these are considered "Painted Ladies". If you have not heard this term, it references brightly colored Victorian or Edwardian style homes built between 1849 to 1915 in San Francisco.

Notice all those telephone wires overhead. It makes for an unsightly photo, but it's not unusual for overhanging wires in the older parts of the city.

I hate those dang wires but I guess they are a necessary evil!
Painted Ladies is a pretty name for the houses. I love the pale colors and they look like step ladders or is that just the way you took the picture?

Thanks Dot! They were on a hill so technically they look like they are on step ladders.

I have been there and seen those. I love the way they look. I have some similar pics from my SF trip a number of years ago!

Cool shot.

I love the painted ladies!! We've been there and have lots of pictures but I like your picture better than mine. Most of my pictures have funny looking people in them.

Are these the ones that no movie from SF van be without? They look cosy - but must be terribly expensive.

Runee: No, these are not those houses that you've seen on tv. To think of it, I've never seen those myself in-person. :) Housing is still not cheap in SF.

Despite the wires, this photo definitely shows one of the charms of San Francisco (of which there are many more!).
