Various waving lucky cat for sale at a curio shop. According to Japanese and other Asian cultures, the "Maneki-neko" or beckoning cat figurine brings good luck and fortune to its owner.

I love the Maneki-neko figures. I have quite a few here, mostly from Japan, but from China, U.S., and elsewhere, too :)

As you say, they are "Manekineko".
I'm glad that I found them in other country.

They are popular in Singapore too. Almost every retail shop or company has one at the entrance. :)

There is a shop here on the Pier that sells the exact same cats, I'll have to look how much they charge for them as a comparision to the $3.49 in your photo!

I love these figures, I used to see them quite a lot around Honolulu, though they are harder to find where I am now! A lovely sight.

catsynth: I wonder if these were made in China too. :D

Yogi: I'm not sure I believe in good luck charms, but some are cute.

cocomino: I think these cats have invaded the earth and are probably seen in many places.

caite: I wish I could teach a real cat to wave on command.

EastCoastLife: I hope the cats are making the businesses prosperous.

llandudnopictures: I am curious how much are the cats in your country.

LondonLulu: These are available to go to a good home, perhaps to yours. :D

Photo Cache: Let me know if have better luck after purchasing one.

I heard that whether or not the left or right hand raised meant something different, but I have never gotten a clear story on what that was. I love the whole shelf of them, that makes for quite the shot, and golly, that is a bargain at $3.49
