Bisons Roam Free
Yes, they caused traffic jams, but I think these were stoppages visitors did not mind.
Several calves clung close to their mommas as they crossed the highway.
Watch this video I took posted on Youtube.
With a male bison weighing close to 2,000 pounds and a female at half that weight, it got a little scary as two bisons started "headbutting" next to our car. We quickly maneuvered out of there as soon as we could.
All the previous photos on this post were taken inside our car except for this one where a bison wandered into our cabin area during a snowstorm.
I ran out as quickly as I could to take a picture.

It's scary but interesting to see. :)
I have never seen bison and other animals on the road.
It is bison first over here.
oh, those are very interesting pictures, kind of scary what if they'll barge right into the car, but am sure they must be used to humans.
They are certainly not afraid of people.

Filip
wowww-this is quiet an adventure! these animals should be really imprssive from so close, dear Karen!
happy weekend from me and thanks for the video...I am curious to see the rest of your disoveries in the National Parks:-)
The bison act like they own the place! Its great that they have a refuge.
OMG - that is so amazing. Considering the only bison I have ever seen are in a pen at Golden Gate Park, this would have been thrilling beyond words. Love the one you captured with the snow, it tells such a story.
What an amazing sight!
wow, these are awesome. I love bisens, they look so mighty and ancient
this is pretty fascinating. I'd have loved to visit Yellowstone just to see these bisons roaming free.
It must be amazing to have them come so close, but it's a bit scary too. They're so big!
They don't seem to be in a hurry to move out of the way either!
How lovely! I would have loved to encounter such a thing. Well, I have, but with lions!
