What a great old building. It definitely piques my curiousity.

Closed and abandoned. It will be great if spruced up. :) Great pic, it tells a story.

Catsynth: This is water tower and garage is part of the residence belonging to Jose Maria Alviso back in the 1830's. I believe the nearby town of Alviso is probably named after him.

Indrani: You are right, the city of Milpitas is sprucing it up and making it into a public park.

The engineer in me says that is a lot of water at 62 pounds per cubic feet for a wooden structure. It's been there a while though, so I guess it is ok.

«Louis» wonders if this style of water tower is unique to California. He has never seen this style anywhere except here. It's nice to read that the city is going to spruce it up.

Oh lovely! I love old structures like this, espcially in rural or natural settings. I guess it would look great in black and white, too!

Amazing! They were building such huge structures in the 1800s. They had great wisedom.
