This 1927 riverboat sits on the Sacramento River and was converted into a floating hotel with 44 rooms, restaurant, and a theatre. After falling into disrepair in the 1980's, it had actually sunk into San Francisco Bay until it was towed to Old Sacramento for a $9 Million restoration. The horse carriages you see around town are a novelty and used to shuttle visitors around the few blocks of Old Sacramento.
I happened to visit Old Sacramento during their "Living History" celebration where volunteers would dress up in 1800's period costumes and reenact those good old days. This woman was cooking what looked like beef stew and biscuits while I talked to her husband about digital cameras.

The riverboat is a beauty. I've always wondered how they got the biscuits browned on an open fire like that. Bet it all had a wonderful flavor.

Oh man! all I ever do is drive through Sacramento on the way to Seattle and on the way to L.A. I really need to stop over sometime and check out old town...

This is really interesting. The last time I was "in" Sacramento was when I was about 12 years old and we drove through on our way to Disneyland. A fascinating place to visit, and I'll remember it. :D

You know i have been to Sacramento several times and even this last trip we have never stopped there. I know if i ever go that way again i am going to stop and see it.
Now for the Banneck National Park town. its interesting but we found one better and its called Virginia City in Montana. Much better than the one in Nevada.

When we went they had already closed up so one day i would love to go when the whole thing is open not more than a mile away is the town of Nevada City fantastic place but also closed,, we looked in the windows and oh my gosh a deifinite place to go There last weekend of being open is Labor Day weekend.
