This huge 20'x80' streetcar mural is located on the corner of Broadway & 11th Sts. in Oakland, CA. Painted by Rocky & Erica Rische-Baird in 2008 on the old Key System transit line headquarters. Sadly, Key System is no longer around and although the building still stands, it has been vacant since 1989 for safety concerns related to the big earthquake of the same year in the bay area.

What a great mural! And nicely captured (very detailed).

I have also been quite fascinated with the old Key System building. I need to go and do more photographs of it in detail.

(I'd love to do our abandoned skyscraper in SF, the Pac Bell building, too.)

What a cool mural, great capture. I almost thought it was a real transit system.

I like this, it's like one of those puzzles with all the different shapes of rectangles - how many can I spot.....?
Wonderful colours too, and shadows. A great picture!

Awesome mural! It's a shame the building is unsafe - how unfortunate if it ever gets torn down. :(

Thank you for everyone's comments.

Crafty Hun: It was taken in downtown Oakland, CA. I didn't realize the building was empty until I was researching this post.

Catsynth: I really enjoy photographing abandoned buildings myself, but usually can't get inside.

Eileeninmd: I had to do a double-take the first time I saw it too. I thought some of those people were real from a distance.

Jenny: I didn't realize the shapes until you mentioned it.

Aquariann: I know what you mean. I hope they can save the mural if the building ever gets torn down.

Cool, so much more classy than the usual graffiti that can be found round here.
