Veterans Day

November 11th was declared "Armistice Day" in 1919 by U.S. President Wilson to remember the end of World War I a year before. In 1954, U.S. President Eisenhower renamed the holiday to "Veterans Day" to honor American military veterans of all wars.
Today was no exception.
Local firefighters draped a flag in the middle of downtown before the start of the parade.

As I doubt anyone from the American Revolutionary War is still with us, these representatives remind us of the sacrifices those soldiers made from centuries ago.

Same here with representatives from the American Civil War.

Most importantly it is a day to remember those veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice on the battlefield.

Thank you everyone. It was a moving parade especially when I see the pictures of the deceased soldiers. It is a solemn reminder of those who died in battle and those who are still fighting overseas.

Oh wow. I just love those old Civil and Revolutionary War uniforms. I like that they renamed it "Veterans Day". here in England there is a valuable drive to remind people that those who are losing their lives today are as much heroes as the men and women lost in the World Wars.
