The town of Auburn, California grew during the Gold Rush days of the mid-1800's and this was where the volunteer fire department was housed until 1954. Tall and unique, this 1891 building is now their museum.
It was not open when I visited so this is what it looks like from the front. This is the view from the back.
Am I the only one who would love to get onto the top floor and ring that bell?- Karen

Looks like something out of a storybook, so well constructed and maintained don't you think?
You can ring my bell anytime that you wish,
but not during that long old time when the fire house was in use.
the fire station looks charming. it seems like a fun place to spend a day!
wow, it is very well maintiained considering it is a structure from the mid 1800s, won't mind you at all ringing that bell :)
The firehouse is so cute, it look like something out of a Lego box.
I'd love to ring the bell too! :)
No I would go and ring, too!
What a beautiful house...great...
Nope, I'd be ringing that bell right along with you. Great shots and I love Auburn right along with Placerville, Sutter Creek and beyond.
That building was built in 1891 and still standing good. Amazing! The design is really unique. You must have a beautiful view from the top. :-)
MrsNesbitt: It does look like something out of a children's fairytale.
Rainfield61: I wouldn't ring it if the firehouse was in use to cause a false alarm. :)
LifeRamblings: The firehouse is in an older part of town. You can see how people lived 160 years ago.
betchai: I imagine it might have been repainted; otherwise, they did maintain it pretty well.
Lina: You're right, I bet Lego can make a replica of it. Then we can all ring its bell. :)
Yvi: It is beautiful with the red and white colors. They don't build firehouses like that anymore.
Poetic Shutterbug: We'll take turns ringing the bell. The places you named are unique and has so much history.
Marlene: I would imagine the view from up top would be amazing on a clear day.
I love odd little buildings like that.
Really nice, would love to ring that bell!
