And Now There Is One

Sunday morning, I discovered one of the baby hummingbirds have flown away from its nest. It was just a matter of time. The remaining baby, hatched exactly 3 weeks ago today, looks so lonely by himself.
If you look closely, parts of the nest looks chewed away and flattened so both growing birds could fit on it.

To my amazement, I spotted the baby that flew away only a few feet away from its nest. Surprisingly, I thought once it leaves the nest, it would be gone forever, but it actually knew the way back to the nest and made several appearances there, but it flies with such skill now that I am not fast enough with my camera.
With each flyby, I think it was showing off to its one-day younger sibling to see what he could now do.

If you have a feeder up I bet you will start seeing the feeder fights soon.

Awww...poor little bird that's left behind all by himself. I released my kids butterflies shortly after Christmas and they flew back to my backyard after flying away for a week or so. Isn't it weird how animals know too where they came from?

It is amazing to learn that the bird(s) chew away part of the nest for more space for two.

Thank you all for following along. As of Monday, all the last baby bird flew away from its nest. Since they are indistinguishable now from other hummingbirds, I did see one or two hummingbirds fly around in the vicinity of the nest. I would like to think these were the 2 babies who are still hanging around to say good-bye. Farewell, my little friends.

Betchai: It is interesting to see other creatures live.

Dot: We don't have a feeder, but if you put one up, I'll be curious how many it attracts.

Lina: Perhaps, maybe it was encouraging the younger to start flying.

Poetic Shutterbug: Thanks! :)

RoseBelle: I guess little creatures are smarter than we think.

Rainfield61: It is interesting to see their thought process.
