Uvas Canyon Park

My camera club friends and I spent this past Saturday at Uvas Canyon County Park photographing its scenery. This is a beautiful 1100 acre heavily wooded park complete with waterfalls, hiking trails, picnic areas, and campgrounds. It is less than 20 miles from home, but I have never been here before.

Ten of those 20 miles were spent on twisting and turning two-lane roads. Right before the entrance to the park we had to pass through a resort called Sveadal which is privately owned by the Swedish American Patriotic League. I would loved to have taken photos of this quaint little area, but at this point, the road narrowed down to one-lane for traffic going in both directions. This bumpy half-mile trek seemed to go on forever since we couldn't drive faster than 5mph on the uneven surface. Luckily, there was no traffic coming from the other direction because there was literally no opening anywhere to pull over.

Other than birds, the only other wildlife, I saw was the slug of some sort in the photo. We don't think it was a banana slug; otherwise it would be yellow? This one was at least 6 inches long and green with dark spots.

I love the waterfall! State parks are some great places to visit - so many nearby and such beautiful scenery.

Wow, I never heard of this park before. Sounds like quite a trek to get there.
I still think its a banana slug. You know how bananas get when they are too ripe...all spotted and blackish....LOL
I remember going to camp when I was young and having to kiss a slug to show I was "cool"

Thanks all for your comments.

Lilli & Nevada, I'm not a fan of bugs of any kind. I guess a slug is a bug?? Hope you guys thaw out soon.

Ally, we have manicured parks too, but it's nice to know natural parks such as this still exist for city people to enjoy.

Jim, I guess we do overlook places close to home thinking the exotic places must be somewhere far away.

TriptheLady, This was just one of the many waterfalls I photographed. There were quite a few to my surprise that such a wonderous place is so close by.

Photowannabe, you are too funny. It could be an overrippen banana slug. This park is by Morgan Hill so it'll be quite a distance for you from Rocklin.

WOW, these are the best. Great shots. I love anything with water moving over rocks. The bridge is so pretty too. Makes me want to be there. Looks so peaceful. Love them all even the slimmy looking creature. LOL

Andrea, thanks! You can definitely find peace in this huge park. The slug has a large place to slither around.
