Sick Dog

My 8 year-old rat terrier, Maverick, has been feeling lethargic, has difficulty jumping, and pretty much not acting himself the last few days. I couldn't tell if he was suffering from mental or physical discomforts. I say mental discomfort because he is afraid of lots of things and would occasionally act strangely for days; however, in this instance, it was longer than "normal".

I took him to the vet and $362 later, they couldn't find anything from the x-ray, but discovered the enzyme levels in his liver is very high. He is on antibiotics and pain medication plus a special wet food diet. After a week, the vet will check on his progress.

Aw, man, sorry to hear that. Tell Maverick, Beaux and Luke (and BIG scott) wish him the best and to GET WELL SOON!

Did you'll board him when you went out of town for the comic convention? Maybe he's sad or something? I ain't no Dr Doolitttle but I do love me some dogs (and animals). Hope all turns out to be ok.

Thanks Big Scott for your concern. Maverick was staying with a friend who has 2 dogs. He didn't act this way until 2 days after we returned.

We'll just wait and see how things turn out. His new wet food smells like liver and he doesn't really like it which I can't blame him.

ahh, I'm sorry. I have two dogs, both in their last years. They're pretty energetic, but one of them has been having siezures. So I can relate.

NYCIndividual, Sorry to hear about your dogs. Maverick appears to be getting better with the medication. Thanks for your concern.

Hhhmm, strange, but, I am glad to hear that he is getting better. Too bad about the wet food, maybe try and cut some dry food in with it for him.

Hang in there, Maverick!

I think we might have narrowed down what's wrong with Maverick. He appears to be favoring his right hind leg. I'll go to the vet again tomorrow to have him check specifically in that area.
