Harris Ranch

This posting is not recommended for vegans. On our drive back from San Diego yesterday, we decided to stop off at the famous Harris Ranch Restaurant & Inn for lunch. We visited its quaint Country Store where they sell scrumptious desserts and their signature beef at the meat counter.

Where do their meat come from? Well a few miles up the road from the restaurant are thousands upon thousands of Harris Ranch cows you can see right off the freeway. Before you reach this area, you're always tipped off by the foul stench in the air. Although there are some shade, it doesn't seem humane to leave these poor animals out in the elements.

LOL, I know that smell, it's horrible! Riding along, riding along then wam!, stinch! At least it's controlled to a certain stretch of land/interstate, though.

...mooooooo

p.s. one of my friends just turned vegan after she watched video on youtube (brainwashing, works every time). The odd thing is is that we create the animals that we kill for food. If it weren't for us, these animals would not exist (and, if they did, they would be out in the wild, fearing for their lives b/c of other animals, higher on the food chain than them). Not trying to start a debate with any AVCR8TEUR readers, just expressing my two cents and what I learned from the animal studies classes at LSU.

Did you know that cows have multiple parts to their stomach (rumen, abdorumen, etc) so that they can regurgitate their food? Do you know why they regurgitate their food? Because, in the wild, cows, being the big, slow animals that they are, would have to chew their food quickly then run for safety to a spot where they could regurgitate their food, eat it again and properly digest it.

We have an environment set up where cows can graze (eat) freely with no worries about wild animals attacking them. Again, no need for a debate, just some FOOD FOR THOUGHT (or, should I say meat for thought??). Whatever your preference, just be you! Like Forrest Gump says, "That's all I have to say about that."

Hi Big Scott, Yep anyone driving I-5 to LA will know that stench of road. Haha. Thanks for the tidbit about the cows.
