What would you do?

So, I have a friend who has a rich dad and father-in-law. Both are in their 70's and have more money than they can spend. One uses all his money on himself by buying a new car, eating out at fancy restaurants, tip heavily, go on elaborate trips, ...etc. But, the other one is frugual, stays home, eats home cooked meals, looks for bargains before making purchases, ...etc.

I think you get the idea of both personalities. If you were at their age with lots of money to spend. What would you do? Spend it all on yourself before you die or be a penny pincher and pass on your money to others? Why did you choose one over the other?

This is a really interesting question. Your making me think today! LOL!! I think if my house was paid off and my bills were paid off then I would enjoy the $$ but I wouldn't blow it on random things that I didn't need. A decent car that doesn't break down all the time is fine by me..it doesn't have to be crazy expensive as long as it is nice and gets me where I need to be. Same goes for the expensive restuarants..every once in a while, why not? But I'd rather a stocked kitchen any day over going out to eat once or twice at a super crazy expensive restuarant. I would also help others who are in need..especially my family & friends. I have been extremly blessed in having others help me in our family in time of need so it would be nice to be able to give back. So the short answer to your question is..enjoy it in moderation but remember at the end of the day how much $$ you haven't doesn't really make a difference, it's how you've lived your life and how you treated other people.

Beth, I couldn't agree with you more about doing things in moderation and how to treat people during our lifetime. There should be no regrets of how we live our lives. - AV

I don't think I can be sure how I would be, but I hope it would be a sensible mixture of both. Interesting you should ask just now, as I am waiting to hear whether I shall get a widow's pension, which is in slight doubt, since my husband and I were separated. If I get it I shall be as they say "very comfortable", and I already have a list of things I want to do if I have money to spare. I've just checked it out and there are 5 projects for other people and 8 for myself, but 4 of the 8 are improving my house which will protect its value, which will eventually benefit my heirs. So there you are.
