4200 ft. above the hills of Silicon Valley is the Lick Observatory owned and operated by the University of California. It is about 20 miles from the city of San Jose at the bottom, but it takes about 1 hour to get to the top from traversing the dangerous windy roads.
Looks like a beautiful place to visit. We have a large telescope near us (associated with museum of natural science) & we enjoy looking through the big telescope (when the clouds stay out of the way)
Thank you everyone for visiting and commenting. It is a fun place to visit and this was only my 2nd trip up there in decades. Unfortunately, they do not allow visitors up there at night except for the occasional special event. The road is already too dangerous during the day and I don't think I can stomach driving up there at night.
