Ok - I gotta admit the tin cups are kind of fun - but have you noticed how lately, at every GGNRA, City sponsored, place like Alcatraz it seems they are busier selling stuff than caring about visitors - The new store at the GGBridge really fried my butt.
La Principessa Errante: The last time I was at GGB the store wasn't opened yet. These gifts were at the Alcatraz gift shop and I thought they were pretty tacky.
Yogi: I don't remember seeing t-shirts there, but I'm sure there were some. I wonder if they were striped?

These are used at Alcatraz before..
ReplyDeleteThese souvenirs would look quite confusing to any former residents of Alcatraz...
ReplyDeleteA very unique souvenir to receive, especially the cups!
ReplyDeleteI have never seen so many of these eraser before. Like garage sale lol
ReplyDeleteI like the tin cups but would not buy it in case someone thinks I escape from Alcaltraz. lol
ReplyDeleteWeird.. But to Tell ya truth, no doubt I would buy something if I was there..lol
ReplyDeleteand, did you buy something?
ReplyDeleteGreetings,
Filip
Chamber pots or tea/soup/coffee mugs?
ReplyDeleteEraser, yeah if only it were that easy.
hmmm, i am not sure if i would buy any, though they seem to be symbolic, but somehow i can't just imagine using them or having them at home.
ReplyDeleterainfield61: No, these are new, I hope.
ReplyDeletecatsynth: Aside from the harmonica and eraser, I wonder if these were standard issues without the nice packaging.
llandudnopictures: I like the cup too, but not sure if I would ever use it besides using it to rattle the prison bars. :)
James Wei: These were expensive garage sale just for tourists.
EastCoastLife: Haha, that is funny!
caite: This was just a small sample. They even sold rocks from the crumbled buildings.
Filip and Kristel: No, I did not buy anything this time, but I bought a cellhouse key the first time I was there.
Sukhmandir Kaur: Haha! Just don't get mixed up.
betchai: Some things are interesting like the history books about the island, but the rest of the stuff, I don't know...
Love those tin mugs! Beautiful captures.
ReplyDeleteWish you a wonderful week :)
$4.95 for a bar of jail soap is a crime!
ReplyDeletedo they have shot glasses or fridge magnets?
ReplyDeleteI wonder if the inmates' cups were similar to these tin cups here.
ReplyDeleteUm, wow. That's quite a souvenir shop.
ReplyDeleteArti: Tin cups were used instead of ceramic ones to avoid them from being broken and turned into a weapon.
ReplyDeleteAnnemarie Pipa: Haha, unlike the actual inmate soaps, this one is made with organic olive oil, saponified coconut and palm kernel oils.
LifeRamblings: I am sure they did. There was just too many things in the store.
de engineur: These replica cups are made of stainless steel and seem unbreakable.
Rachel Cotterill: And so much more. You can even buy stuff online: http://store.parksconservancy.org/store/productlist.asp?cat=1&sub=1
What cute souvenirs! I especially like the salt and pepper shakers and the soap!
ReplyDeleteLot of choice there.
