T is for Tahoe on ABC Wednesday

Lake Tahoe
This area is typically just called Tahoe and it's known for its ski resorts and gambling casinos.

Model of Lake Tahoe
2nd deepest lake in the United States at a depth of 1645 feet and 22 miles x 12 miles wide. It has been rumored that a 60-foot long serpent-like monster named "Tahoe Tessie" lives at the bottom of the lake.

Squaw Valley
2nd largest ski resort in the Tahoe area and site of the 1960 Winter Olympics

  1. Nice choice for the letter T. The scenery in your top photo is so appealing. It looks so warm, too! (It's freezing here.)

  2. It has been a couple of yrs since we were in Tahoe and have to say we didn't recognize any of it, as it has grown so much. wonder when they put that monument up for the lake.
    Great T post

  4. The Olympics! I think something is going on in UK for future Olympics. So far it is way way way over budget and behind schedule. Still if it is not finished I guess they can come over to Squaw Valley! LOL!

  11. hey!

I'm brand new to the whole ABC Wednesday thing so I'm trying to introduce myself to everyone involved... I'm realizing this is a much bigger task than I would have thought. I'm Jim Baker and you can see my first ABC post here.

You've got a great eye, I enjoyed looking through all of your photographs on your first page. What kind of gear are you using?

  15. Fenix, I took these pictures in the summer so I hope it brought you some warmth to Boston.

  16. Lilli & Nevada, Not sure when they put this monument of the lake up. I was taken to this area by a tour bus and it's the first time I have actually toured the northern part of the lake.

  17. Lara, since the lake is so deep, I guess they have to have a story about a monster.

  18. Denise, I heard something about the UK hosting a future Olympics. I think Squaw Valley is too small now for that.

  19. Ackworth, according to the story, Jacque Cousteau did a dive down the lake and was shocked at what he saw, but he never told the public what it was. Perhaps that's when people started making up the story.

  20. Mike, I've skied Tahoe twice myself, but haven't been back skiing in almost 20 years.

  21. Kate Isis, it is an extremely popular place, but I hate driving there because of the mountainous roads. During the winter, it's not for the faint of heart.

  22. Thanks Andrea. It is beautiful and a great place for a getaway.

  23. Thanks kml. The photos don't do it justice. The view is beautiful and the air is fresh & clean.

  24. Neva, you probably haven't heard much about Tahoe Tessie because it doesn't surface very often. :)

  25. Welcome Jim to ABC Wednesday. I'll add you to my blogroll. I'll drop by your blog soon and check out your photos.

  26. Dot, I've taken a paddlewheeler cruise on the lake twice, but never saw the monster. I think it is safe. There even used to be a Tahoe Tessie Museum until it closed down.

  27. Digital Flower, you've got to come visit again. I'm sure it has changed for the better.

  28. Photowannabe, you're right. Tahoe is so different from winter and summer. It's like taking pictures of 2 different places.

  33. Web-OJ, without the model, we wouldn't have a concept of its shape and depth.
